Public input meetings scheduled across Arkansas
 
      LITTLE ROCK – Public input is a crucial component of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s process for setting hunting and fishing regulations. 
      The meetings are part of the AGFC’s annual hunting regulations process, giving hunters the opportunity to make comments and proposals for the 2012-13 hunting seasons.
      The meetings will be held 7 p.m.-9 p.m., Jan. 31, at the following locations:

The following items will be topics of discussion at the meetings:
      1. Elimination of flood prone zones A through I.
      2. Remove white-tailed deer from the approved list of pets. 
      3. Elk hunt applicants must have a current big game hunting license, before applying for an elk permit.
      4. For the 2012 elk season, move the December hunt to October.
      5. For the 2013 elk season, conduct a single hunt in late October. 
      6. Move the archery opener to the fourth Saturday in September.
      7. Increase the leased-land permit fee from $20 to $40.
      8. Push turkey season back one week and reduce the youth hunt to one day.
      9. Change the doe-only hunt to an antlerless hunt and move it to an earlier date (Oct. 13-17, 2012 – Saturday through Wednesday). 
      10. Increase the squirrel bag limit from 8 to 12 and possession limit from 36 to 48 squirrels.
      11. During youth hunts, mentors will not be allowed to carry a weapon.
      12. Antler restrictions on wildlife management areas and deer zones.
      Written comments may be submitted at any of the meetings or mailed by Feb. 28 to the AGFC, attn.: Hunting Regulations Proposals, 2 Natural Resources Drive, Little Rock, AR 72205. There will be a brief presentation starting at 7 p.m. Followed by oral comments from the public. After the meeting, AGFC personnel will be available to answer questions.
