The fishing has been good on Lake of the Ozarks. The fish have been biting good on their normal summer structure locations as long as the current is running.
Lake level: 658.89 with heavy generation schedule as they are trying to get Truman down from all the water they had stored there to keep from adding to the Miss flooding problems. Truman Lake Level: 725.48
Water temps: 78-83 degrees
Gravois and Dam area to the Toll Bridge. Clear to stained. This area of the lake has the best structure fishing. Good clarity and plenty of current passing over points and humps in the main channel. The fish can be caught deeper in the clearer portion of the lower end. Down to 20-25' on points. The majority of the fish are located in the 12'-18' range. Look for points, humps, ledges and channel swings in that depth range. Football jigs, Texas rigs, Carolina rigs and deep diving crankbaits are all working on these fish. And it is a good idea to have a rotation of baits to show fish on structure a different look. This will get you an extra bite or two.
Glaize: Clear to stained. The structure bite is also very productive in this area. The fish are holding a little shallower here 8'-15' range. Texas rigs and jigs fished in the brush on the structure is producing good quality. On days when the water is too rough fish the docks on deeper banks and near points in coves with a Texas rig and a 10" Power Worm. Feel around these docks for brushpiles. Once you locate a brushpile fish it thoroughly there is usually a fish there.
Nianguas: Clear to Stained. The best bite in the Nianguas has been around the Hwy 5 bridge. The structure with five miles of the bridge has clear water close to the dirty water of the Osage and just out of the strong current. The best depth range has been from 8'-16'. The 10" Power worm has been the most productive bait. But these fish can be caught on jigs and deep diving cranks also. And on the flatter points Carolina rigged worms and lizards are the best choice. Up the arms fish can be caught on docks using big 10" Power Worms. The med-depth docks with brush are the best.
Osage River: Muddy to stained. There is strong current in the upper portion of the Osage coming from Truman Dam. The fishing is better as you head down the river. The water clears up and you can find fish on points near the main channel. The strong current is attracting these fish to the points for an easy meal. Docks with brush around points are also producitive. The fish are holding shallower in the river with the dirtier water conditions. 4'-8' are good productive depths on the points in the main river. When you find a good point there has been a few keepers together. 10" Power Worms, jigs and medium depth cranks have been producitive.
Thanks and Good Luck!
Note: Fishing is Great throughout the summer here at Lake of the Ozarks. And you don’t need to fish at night to catch good quality fish.
