Went fishing today for a little while out at Thousand Hills Lake. I started out using a Pig Sticker spinnerbait in the 1/4 oz size and fishing windy banks. All I was doing was trying to locate some bass. I caught a couple of smaller fish and my friend Ed got a 15 inch keeper. We were not getting the results we wanted or imagined throwing spinnerbaits so we started throwing our Thunderstruck jigs and working some breaks and dropoffs around the marina. We caught a couple of shorts. I decided that since the fish were being a little finicky I would break out a jig worm. Well it didn't take long before I started slaying them. Pretty soon I set the hook into this bass that went probably 6lbs. I'm pretty bad at judging them. He was a lot bigger than the largemouth that went 4-4 in my tournament on saturday. The fish came out of about 2 feet of water. My friend Ed did a great job of lipping the fish for me. The hook was right in the top of the mouth and there was no chance he was going to get off. Below is a pic of her.Unless I'm throwing spinning tackle or using trasmission baits I always set the hook hard and let them have it. These big fish take some power to penetrate their fat lips. I would imagine a lot of quality fish are lost because the hook never gets all the way in. Overall we caught about 45 bass this afternoon in about 3 hours. I wish their was a fishing tournament going on this weekend...it would be insane. Fishing is too good considering we have finals comming up next week and its gonna be hard sitting inside studying. Hopefully everyone is getting out to fish with the nice temps we are having . Good luck on your next trip out and take it easy.........
